If you were to poll a group of people today, asking them about their favorite holiday, they would undoubtedly tell you “Christmas” or “Thanksgiving”. And while those are both great holidays for different reasons, many people look forward to the sweet and savory recipes that come along with those glorious family gatherings. Fast forward to the summer and those same people are telling you they want to “eat light and eat right”. But contrary to popular belief, eating well doesn’t have to mean giving up taste. As parents, we’re always looking for ways to get our school-aged children to eat better.

Summertime can be a great opportunity to try new recipes. Especially cool, mouth-watering treats that help you beat the heat and don’t require a lot of time in the kitchen. One such treat is a homemade acai bowl. If you’ve never had one, ask for forgiveness. If you have, you know they’re pretty amazing! And now, with just a bit of effort, you can make your own acai bowl in the comfort of your own home. Acai is a Brazilian fruit that is loaded with antioxidants. Healthy and tasty all in the same bowl that doesn’t require hours of prep time? Yes please!

Acai bowls can be as diverse as the taste buds in your household. You can tweak them to suit your fancy. Below you’ll find a basic recipe. Have fun making it your own! Bon appetit!


Classic Acai Bowl

Prep Time: 5 minutes
Total Time: 5 minutes
Servings: 1 bowl

  • 1 (100g) packet frozen acai berry blend I used the unsweetened version from Sambazon
  • 1 banana frozen
  • ¼ cup non-dairy milk or yogurt I used Silk Dairy Free
  • Fresh berries/coconut/granola to top


  1. In a high-powered blender, combine the acai berry packet, frozen banana, and 1/4 cup Silk Dairy Free. Blend until completely smooth.
  2. Pour into a bowl and top with berries, coconut, and/or granola.

Recipe Notes

Silk Dairy Free can be substituted with Greek yogurt or dairy-free milk.
