NCA Senior Spotlight: Mikayla Deese
How long have you attended Northside?
I have attended Northside for eight years.
What do you love most about Northside?
I love how the teachers care for their students. They enjoy teaching and love the students which is evident in how they interact with us.
Which teachers have impacted you the greatest, and how?
All the teachers have had a huge impact on my life. Mrs. Harrell and Dr. Romano have had major impacts on my life. They have both encouraged me daily to do my best and have stretched me academically and spiritually.
What extra-curricular activities/groups are you involved in?
I am involved in Youth Ensemble at my church, Youth Force leadership team at my church, Bel Canto Singers, Chapel Committee, B.L.A.S.T Groups, and Lady Knights basketball team.
What honors and awards have you received during your time at NCA?
I have received awards for Spanish, made the Principal’s List throughout high school, accepted into the National Honors Society, accepted into the Spanish “Los Caballeros” National Honor Society, served as a Junior Marshall, and will be graduating on the Advanced Preparatory track.
To which colleges have you been accepted and where do you plan to attend?
I have been accepted to University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Appalachian State University, and Western Carolina University. Western Carolina is where I will be attending in the fall.
What do you plan to study in college?
I plan to study Forensic Science with a focus in Criminalistics.
What activities (athletic, fine arts, etc.) do you plan to participate in while at college?
I plan to participate in fine arts while in college either in art or choir. I am also participating in the Honors College at Western Carolina.
What is your life verse?
My life verse is Psalm 46:5,10a, “God is in the midst of her, she shall not be moved, God shall help her, just at the break of dawn… Be still, and know that I am God…” I have found that these verses are a comfort in times of stress, anxiousness, and fear.
