NCA’s Ficklin: Gifted Student, Athlete, Actress
Have you ever come across someone who seems to just be a natural at everything they try? We sure have – and continue to come across those kinds of folks daily here at NCA! One student in particular is getting some very much deserved recognition – as she is a very special example of what a whole student looks like!
Senior, Olivia Ficklin has had quite a high school career during her time here at NCA. She is currently the student body president, a member of the National Honor Society, holds the girls’ school record in soccer for most saves, is a strong visual artist, and also an extraordinarily gifted singer / actress! Yes, we can hardly believe it ourselves, but it’s all true, nonetheless! Olivia is now receiving recognition from the Charlotte area’s annual Blumey Awards for her role as “Maria” in NCA’s February production of “The Sound of Music.”
The Blumey Awards are given on behalf of the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center in order to recognize extraordinary high school talent in the greater Charlotte area – and to promote the significance of musical theater and arts education. It is truly a program that gives back to its community, and for that, we are grateful!
Mrs. Susan Renstrom, director of our fine and performing arts shared with us the news of Olivia’s recognition:
“We received notice recently that one of our students, Olivia Ficklin (Maria in “The Sound of Music”) was nominated to go on to the next level at the Blumey Awards. Of all 44 schools involved, 20 Best Actresses were chosen. After an audition process on May 6, the top six will be chosen. We are so proud of Olivia (as well as the entire cast and crew of SoM) and look forward to seeing how the audition goes. Either way, she’s our winner!”
We couldn’t agree more with Mrs. Renstrom’s sentiment of Olivia being our winner; because, she most certainly embodies all that a winner is! Please join us in congratulating Olivia on her incredible accomplishments – and assist us in saying “Break A Leg!” in her upcoming audition! Way to go, Olivia – we are proud of you!
