NCA Senior Spotlight: Ben Smith
How long have you attended Northside?
This is my second year at Northside.
What do you love most about Northside?
I love the sense of community here. Not only are there teachers that are committed to imparting Godly wisdom to us students as part of a quality education, but there are many, many genuinely Christ-focused students. I haven’t found a more supportive, welcoming, and unified body of students anywhere else.
Which teachers have impacted you the greatest, and how?
The teacher that has impacted me the most has been T-Nel (Mr. Taylor Nelson.) There’s no contest. He’s been an awesome example of superior musicianship, selfless leadership, and a patient teacher. I hope one day to call him a friend, along with a mentor and a teacher.
What extra-curricular activities/groups are you involved in?
I play in several praise bands between my church: Calvary Church, and NCA. I am a bass in Bel Canto, a vocal ensemble at NCA. If I’m not at some manner of rehearsal, I’m likely rock climbing, reading, or playing my guitar.
What honors and awards have you received during your time at NCA?
I am a current NHS member. I made the Principal’s List. I was the lead Male Role in the play Sound of Music.
To which colleges have you been accepted and where do you plan to attend?
I have been accepted to Gardner-Webb, Liberty, and Cedarville. I plan to attend Cedarville University.
What do you plan to study in college?
I plan to study Worship and minor in Music Production or Music Business.
What activities (athletic, fine arts, etc.) do you plan to participate in while at college?
I plan to participate in Heartsong (Auditioned worship ensemble at Cedarville), rock climbing, and intramural badminton.
What is your life verse?
My life verse is Psalm 27:14, “Wait for the LORD; Be strong and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the LORD.”
